Do you watch music videos on You tube? Did you come across the name VeVo? I am sure you have especially if you are a big fan of Lady Gaga. VeVo is available in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. VeVo, the music video site backed by Universal and Sony, and supported by EMI. VeVo offers music videos from three of the ‘big four’ major record labels: Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and EMI. In March, more than 52 million Americans visited to watch videos for an average of 80 minutes each. As mentioned on their website, ranked by comScore as the #1 Music platform on the web, VeVo was named by Billboard as one of the top start-ups of 2010.

You tube has been one of the popular destinations for music fans around the world to view music videos and listen to music. You tube has also been the choice of many record companies and individual artists where they promote their music along with many amateur home made videos. But the third place channel is Machinima, a video channel dedicated to video game clips. The channel was welcoming some 16.9 million unique visitors on You tube in July. Couple of years ago, as I was working on Virtual Worlds projects I became familiar with machinima and I understand the numbers behind it which can be quite surprising to some.

According to Comscore, Google Sites, driven primarily by video viewing at, ranked as the top online video content property in July with 158.1 million unique viewers, while VEVO ranked second with 62.1 million. climbed to the #3 position with 51.4 million viewers, followed by Microsoft Sites with 49.5 million and Viacom Digital with 47.3 million. Interesting enough Vevo manages to keep the audience longer then Facebook. Vevo audience spent 66 minutes per customer while facebook was only 17 minutes. Youtube audience spends a whooping 353 minutes of Youtube watching.

Facebook is quickly catching up on Vevo . I can only imagine Facebook will soon have branded content out to compete with the top two video sharing sites. we already know that Miramax is coming to Facebook. So let’s see how Facebook will pull this off to grab a share of the market.
